Happy Valentine’s Day!
The 7th and last entry to my Valentine’s week is the movie ‘Somewhere In Time’. I saw it on cable while on vacation at my mom’s province when I was a young girl and since then I’ve always said that it is my favorite love story. I have seen a lot more movies now and although I can’t say it still is my favorite, it remains to be one of them.
The movie is a time travel romance starring Christopher Reeves as Richard Collier and Jane Seymour as Elise McKenna. Collier is a playwright who was having a hard time writing new material and suddenly decides to take a vacation. He stayed at the Grand Hotel and came to see a picture of a beautiful young lady. Smitten, he searched for information and found out that she was a famous theater actress in 1912. Somehow, he was able to travel back in time to that year and met McKenna.
Below is the theme song (which I absolutely adore) and the trailer.

“You can erase someone from your mind. Getting them out of your heart is another story.”
‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” is my 6th entry. Like my previous posts, it is another favorite and highly recommended.
Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet star as Joel Barish and Clementine Kruczynski, two former lovers drawn to each other again after two years. However, they do not remember each other or their past relationship. This is because both had their memories of each other erased.
After a big fight, Clementine being her impulsive self, decided to have a procedure that erases memories of a specific person. When Joel discovers this, he also has the same procedure. The movie takes place mostly in his mind as the procedure is being done.

Como agua para chocolate in Spanish, is a popular novel written by Laura Esquivel. It is my 5th entry this week. As you may have noticed, my previous entries were unconventional expressions of love and this one is no different.
It tells the story of Tita, the youngest daughter of Elena de la Garza. It has been the tradition of their family for the youngest daughter to stay unmarried and to take care of her mother until the latter’s death. Tita however fell in love with Pedro but because of the tradition, is forbidden to marry him. Pedro marries Tita’s elder sister Rosauro instead. Heartbroken, Tita turned to cooking and unconsciously expressed her passions and feelings through it. People who tasted her dishes are filled with the same feelings and caused them to act their own passions as well.
In 1992, Laura Esquivel’s ex-husband Alfonso Arau, directed the movie based on the novel.

One of the most critically acclaimed film of the 21st century; I chose this film for my fifth entry. Not only is it visually stunning, it is also emotionally moving. Written, produced and directed by Wong Kar Wai, it stars Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung.
It takes place in Hong Kong, 1962. So Lai-zhen (Maggie Cheung) and Chow Mo-Wan (Tony Leung) together with their spouses, each rent a room in an apartment of a building on the same day. They began spending time together as their spouses are often away at work. Later on, they discover that their spouses are having an affair with each other and themselves thrown into an uncertain affair.
Below is a shortened video of the movie.
