Del Amor Y Otros Demonios

“Love is an emotion contra natura that condemned two strangers to a base and unhealthy dependence, and the more intense it was, the more ephemeral.”
Second entry to my week-long project. This time a book by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. English title is “Of Love and Other Demons“. Yet another one of my favorites and another unconventional love story.
Set in a South American seaport during the colonial era, the story revolves around Sierva María de Todos los Ángeles and Father Cayetano Delaura. Sierva is the only daughter of a noble family. On her 12th birthday, she was bitten by a rabid dog and contracted rabies however was believed to be possessed instead. She was imprisoned in a convent and Father Delaura was to oversee her exorcism. This is a story of their love: improbable, deeply moving, and defying – even in death – the constraints of reason and faith.
And here is a stop frame animation based on the book.
